Frequently asked questions
1) What does it mean that BiBB is a media company and an Encyclopedia 4.0?
BiBB is a combination of a media company and a new model for an encyclopedia, which we call 4.0 because it differs from traditional encyclopedias and Wikipedia. For example, BiBB has several types of answers for each wORD (topic). It is an adaptation to new technologies, new reading habits, the new media landscape, and AI.
Encyclopedia 1.0 are printed encyclopedias. Encyclopedia 2.0 are basically digital copies of version 1 — like NE.se. Encyclopedia 3.0 can be said to be WikipediawORD with user-generated content without named authors.
2) Is there room for BiBB among search engines, Wikipedia, and AI services?
Yes, thanks to BiBB’s so-called Green Island StrategywORD built on a completely new concept. Doing something almost like before is no longer enough.
BiBB is a new destination, a starting point, for knowledge and discoveries of various kinds. BiBB broadens the concept of an encyclopedia and is influenced by the fact that we live in a time of extreme change — and by serious dangers discussed in BiBB’s editorial section.
WikipediawORD is often good — especially the English Wikipedia — but it has no named authors. Google is today an AI-enhanced, advertising-optimizing search engine where relevant answers may appear far down among the search results.
AI services such as ChatGPTORD are interesting but have no named authors and certain weaknesses. Sometimes they present exact answers that are completely fabricated. Even though the errors are gradually decreasing, uncertainty remains.
3) What is the difference between ORD (words) and IDstories in BiBB?
wORDs are more like what one usually means by encyclopedic articles, but BiBB has its own model for wORDs (topics). See also Basic requirements for a modern encyclopedia.
IDstories are stories that have a different character and design than wORDs. IDstories may sometimes have a named sponsor, which wORDs never do. IDstories and wORDs handle references in different ways.
4) What is happening at BiBB?
Some of it can be seen through our Blog and Development Blog, and through New wORDs and New IDstories.
BiBB currently has 708 posts of wORDs and IDstories. 5–10 are added each week.
As the number of wORDs and IDstories grows and more people discover BiBB, it may become interesting for more to collaborate with BiBB: 10 ways.
5) Who should own BiBB?
An earlier idea that BiBB would eventually be owned by a foundation linked to Swedish universities and colleges — as in Norway — is no longer current. In Denmark, the state has contributed at least 30 million to "Den Store Danske", a strong signal that a free modern knowledge service is seen as valuable for Danish society. Swedish decision-makers do not think that way.
BiBB is owned, operated, and financed by Johan Schlasberg plus a few sponsors and clients.
6) Are the encyclopedia NE online and BiBB competitors?
Only marginally — in the sense that BiBB presents a more modern vision for a modern free encyclopedia.
NE online is a national problem with an uncertain future, partly because the company NE lost 70 million SEK in 2024 and is part of a loss-making private group whose largest investment (over 300 million) in the past decade has been the production and sale of vodka and gin.
