A Thesis card is a printed card in an e.g. A5 format that can modernize the old academic tradition of literally nailing a dissertation manuscript - hanging it in a string - on a wall on the the PhD students academic institution.

This symbolic act has its value and is often celebrated with a glass of bubble and gets a picture on the department's website and often on social media. But it is not meant for someone to stand and read something in the "hanging" script. The nailing is just a symbol. That symbols and symbolic acts are renewed to survive and thus get increased meaning is not uncommon. Outside of Academia.

But with a Thesis card you can combine the symbolic nailing by actually giving the reader - that day and other days - an opportunity to indeed read a little more in the dissertation.

Say that you print 100-300 Thesis cards in A5 format and make two to four holes on the long side. Then you hang a number of Thesis cards on two nails. An interested person takes a copy and can read more when it is convenient. Super simple and sustainable:-) A Thesis card indicates on the front page the dissertation's title and author(s) and preferably a link address so that those who want to read more can do so. The rear side can be a summary or other, the example in Reply 2 Svar 2ꜜ has a sitemap.

Thesis card for Johan Schlasberg's dissertation

This Thesis Card is printed in 2.000 copies nd is spread in different ways primarily to present and market a "little innovation" in the Academy and secondly as marketing of my dissertation that is only available as a site. I have no intention to downgrade it to a pdf:-)

A number of QR code decals in size 4x5 centimeters have been set up in June 2025 "on the town" in Lund, Malmö, Helsingborg, Kalmar och Stockholm. More university cities will be added.
