Studentgatan 2-6

This building was constructed in 1965 and is located in central Malmö. It houses several offices and shops.

The building was designed by the architecture firm: Jaenecke & Samuelson.

History

The block takes its name "Altona" from a famous entertainment venue that was demolished in the 1860s.

About the Local Area

Directly across the street stands the Hans department store. In Altona Park, which stretches along the canal, stands a metallic man who is crying (IDstory). He looks somehow familiar—a sculpture well worth a detour.

For many years, the NK (Nordiska Kompaniet) department store stood just across the street, known for its fine bookstore in the basement. NK closed in 1991. Today, the building is called Hansa and the bookstore—though a different one—now sits at street level. In the basement, you’ll find everything from drinks and flowers to pharmacy items and groceries.

Many of the city’s green buses stop right outside the building’s doors.
