Lilla Torg
i Malmö

Stortorget (IDstory) was a substantial addition when it was built in 1546, but commerce flourished and in 1562 Lilla Torg (the Small Square) was added.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, parts of the square had sheds and houses. All were demolished in 1903 to make way for a large market hall (IDstory), which covered the entire square. In the late 1960s this hall was demolished.
Now they laid old-fashioned cobblestones and decorated them with a well by Thure Thörn (IDstory).
The red building in the far corner was a market hall for many years, but is now mostly a restaurant. It used to be a printing house - popularly known as Litografen..

Stand in the square and look south. To the right you will find the gate to Form Design Center at Hedmanska gården↗.
Enter the courtyard and experience design in textiles, furniture, crafts and more. The shop on the third floor has a rich selection and you can take a coffee break on the second floor and there are many good magazines about design, architecture etc. A small cultural oasis. The last time I met the Malmö artist Bertil Gadö, we had coffee here. Professor Jan-Gunnar Sjölin published a comprehensive and exciting monograph in 2004 - 'Bertil Gadö, Pictures of Man and Cosmos'.

Even before it gets hot, the parasols are put out and the gas burners - eco-friendly? - are started.
In the blue house (IDstory) they serve Japanese food. On the left of the blue house you will be served Indish. The fish restaurant Johan P has moved to near by street Hjulhamnsgatan 5.
At Restaurangguiden↗ you will find more tips for great eating.

Sometimes strange things happen at night. Photo Björn Carlsson. Björn is a web designer and photographer. On his way home one evening around ten o'clock, he heard a hissing sound in the distance. Seismic unrest or a major cleaning in the underground?
