Katrinetorp manor

Katrinetorp is as big as 9 football fields. Not all football fields are the same size, but it is a little over 7,000 square meters. Formerly a summer house, for, among others Thomas Frick (IDstory), one of Malmö's successful businessmen in the 19th century. Today the center of a new recreation area. The houses are being renovated, the French garden is being planted with flowers and vegetables, and is surrounded by an English garden. The former requires order and work, the latter requires walking shoes.

The manor, which dates back to the period 1800-1810, was first used as a summer house and has been expanded in stages by new owners. Read more about Thomas Frick (IDstory).

In 1937, the city of Malmö bought the manor and over the past 10-15 years, both the house and gardens have been renovated step by step. Read more about Katrinetorp's history on Malmö's website. and in an excellent publication, which can be purchased for 20 kronor, or so, when visiting Katrinetorp.

Katrinetorp was created in one of Sweden's greatest upheavals - the 'Enskifte'. Many small and scattered plots of land were merged into larger units. Each farmer could now manage his land as he wanted and was able. People moved from the village to new houses on their estates. The Skåne member of parliament and the landowner Rutger Macklean↗svW at Svaneholm, was one of the reform's promoters and pioneers.
