Carl GunnarHerrlin was born in Karlskrona in 1885 and was the son of elementary school teacher Carl Johan Herrlin and Ida Katarina Andersson.

Expert on Tegnér and humanist
Herrlin was a widely read person and was, among other things, a great connoisseur of Esaias Tegnér.
He wrote several biographies, Tegnér studies and, and not least, he edited the diocese's Christmas book for two decades. He was a valued orator - concise, logical and yet with warmth of heart.
The Danish refugees
Gunnar Herrlin made a great contribution to the Danish refugees who came to Landskrona during World War II. For this work he received King Christian X's Freedom Medal. It was minted in approximately 3,000 copies and was received in Sweden by, among others, Gustav V and Folke Bernadotte.
Olle Herrlin and the Laurentii foundation
His son Olle Herrlin was one of the young priests who in 1938 started the high church Laurentiistiftelsen in Lund↗.. This today runs St. Laurentii Church and a student residence in Lund. Olle Herrlin married Ylva Thulin, daughter of the aviation pioneer Enoc Thulin (IDstory) and his wife hustru Maja. Olle Herrlin was bishop in Visby 1965-1981.
The issue of female priests is perhaps the issue that the wider public most associates with high churchness. The Church Council decided in 1993 not to ordain men who oppose the arrangement of female priests. A priest who today wants to receive a higher position within the church must also declare his willingness to work with other priests regardless of gender.
Church order Chapter 31, Section 2, Section 5:
The cathedral chapter may declare a person authorized to exercise the mission as a priest who has declared himself prepared to serve in all duties together with others who have been ordained to a mission within the church's ordination service, regardless of their gender.
