The Vallhalla palace

Gustav Adolfs Torg (IDstory) 10 /Södra Tullgatan 1 (Block. Magnus Stenbock 1). The house is perhaps better known to older Malmö residents as Fläkta Örn, after the pharmacy that was located here for many years.

Alfred Arwidius

The house was built for the hat manufacturer Axel Berling and was designed by the Malmö architect Alfred Arwidius in 1901 (see portrait). It was erected by master builder Christian Lauritz Müller in 1901-03.

The Swedish Straw Hat Factory was located in the courtyard with around 60 workers. On the ground floor there were four large business premises. This was where the pharmacy Lejonet (IDstory) moved in 1908. The other floors contained residential apartments of four to eight rooms. For a period, Spies travel agency was located on the ground floor.
