Thomas Frick
Thomas Frick

1787-1867
Merchant and shipowner, son of merchant Anders Gilius Frick who immigrated from Germany. Thomas Frick became one of Malmö's leading and richest businessmen. He also owned several properties, including Katrinetorp (IDstory) outside Malmö and Alstadgården in Fru Alstad. His home was located in the block between Gustav Adolfs Torg and the canal, opposite the cemetery. He was married to a cousin on his mother's side, Anna Christina Mandorff 1792-1860.
In September 1860, Thomas Frick was worried about the harvest. It had not rained for some time. In addition, a ship was delayed due to a storm and a shipment of rams from upcountry had not arrived on time. But everything turned out well and he wrote in a letter to Inspector Malmros:
"Dear friend, everything is now fine again as the boats have arrived in port and the rams have made it to Malmö. Thank God, it has also rained, so that the harvest at Katrinetorp (IDstory) is saved. Your friend Frick. PS. My wife is dead. She fell into the canal last night.."
This PS, The death of his then 68-year-old wife sounds a bit brutal to our ears, but it was probably perceived differently at the time. It mixes the everyday with the personal in a way that is not done in our time. He and his wife were no longer living together. She did not die in the canal by the cemetery but in the one by Drottningtorget.
His son, David Gilius Frick, 1823-1901, also lies at the gravesite. Unlike his father, he had lived on one of his estates, but after his father's death he moved into the estate in Malmö. However, he closed his father's trading business and devoted himself to the estates he now owned. In addition, he had time left for financial investments and a loan business. He became a very wealthy man and devoted a lot of time to charity. He was a member of the first board of directors of Malmö Förskönings- och planteringsförening.
Also at the gravesite: His brother-in-law David Mandorff, 1767-1829. Merchant in Malmö. And Pehr Frick, 1797-1875.
Pehr Frick's gravesite is situated in the row near Gustav Adolfs Torg (IDstory) to the left of the gates as you enter the cemetery. Here he rests together with his business partner Fredrik Möller.

Gravesite at Gamla kyrkogårdene (IDstory) which is nearby Gustav Adolfs Torge (IDstory).
