Bodarps church
If you’re driving the E6 from Malmö towards Trelleborg and turn left a few kilometers south of Vellinge, you’ll soon spot a white church spire rising in the distance. That’s Bodarp Church, part of the Hammarlöv parish.

Dating back to the 13th century, Bodarp Church has been extended and renovated several times over the centuries. Its beautiful stepped gable tower is a true landmark. The baptismal font is from the 1600s – See interior photos ↓ – and its church bell was cast in Lübeck in 1594. As is often the case in small parishes, the church is used in rotation with nearby churches.
The church notice board ↓ – from May 14, 2006 – shares news of local parish events, including upcoming services, who holds the key to the church, and that the neighboring church, Maglarp New Church (IDstory), was deconsecrated on May 20, 2006.
In the Skåne countryside, it’s common to see several churches at once. The photos below capture both the beautiful surroundings and other nearby churches. Seven-day-old goslings live next to Bodarp Church, alongside a large raspberry farm.
These three texts are from the Bodarp Church notice board, May 15, 2006.

This photo shows how services rotate among the neighboring parish churches.

As far as the author knows (there may be more today), only the church on Ven – now Tycho Brahe Museum – and two others have previously become secular buildings. In 2009, Caroli Church (IDstory) joined their ranks.
