The Bishop's house in Lund
We imagine that you are a student and have found the Academic Association (called AF in Lund, although it means something different in other cities). Walk up Sandgatan and you will come to 'Biskopshuset' as it is callesd in Swedish. The official Lund name is Old Biskopshuset. But you don't have time for double names, so now we just call it Biskopshuset.
Skissernas museum and The University Library (UB)
Biskopshuset is not open to the public, but behind the house lies the quite unique Skissernas museum (IDstory) which is next to the University library. Thomanders student dormitory↗ visible on the right in the picture. Johan Henrik Thomanders (IDstory) own house was moved to Kulturen in Lund. More about the history of the house ↓

One of Lund University's finest meeting and party venues
In 1994, the university bought the house back from the church. After renovation, the house is by many a highly valued and frequently used meeting place. It houses parts of the university's art collection (the painting below is one of many) and is where guests are treated and where academic and other kinds of wisdom is exchanged. The pictures show a conference room and the library.

Eberhard Rosén-Rosenblad
The painting and the photo, taken in the same room, are related. He was a professor of practical medicine in Lund, but also chief physician and superintendent at Ramlösa Brunn. Is that Ramlösa (a sparkling water brand) in the bottles? More about Eberhard Rosén-Rosenblad ↓
A note on the history and name of Biskopshuset
Biskopshuset was built in 1842 to house the departments of zoology, physics and chemistry. Hardly a bishop's house, but the house was given this name when the university discovered after a few years that it was too small and then exchanged houses with the church.
The bishops succeeded each other and Per-Olov Ahrén was the last bishop to live in the house. Bishop K G Hammar wanted a different residence and this led to another deal between the church and the university. The purchase was completed in 1994 and now the building has been renovated to its current appearance..
If you want to visit the bishop of the Lund diocese today, you can walk a few steps south of the Historical Museum to Krafts torg 12 B..
The official Lund - read the university - usually, but not always - calls the house the Old (Gamla) Biskopshuset. The author has taken the liberty of calling the house the Bishop's House. Among other things, because there is not a "New" to confuse it with. The new Biskopshuset houses Historiska museet↗ oand is located next to the Academic Association (AF) and the Cathedral.
